Navarreria
La Navarreria
Back in the day, what is now Pamplona's historic center was once three separate and rivalling boroughs: San Cernin, San Nicolas and La Navarreria. La Navarreria is the oldest of the three, having once been home to the Roman town of Pompaelo. The area is brimming with delights for the visitor ranging from Gothic cathedrals to tranquil parks, beautiful squares and old city walls. Plus, La Navarreria also serves as the center of the city's social life and without a doubt the place to go for "pintxos", the word for "tapas" in Basque.
What's more, when you sign up for a Spanish course with our partner Spanish language school in Pamplona, the school and our student accommodation options are all centrally located. This means that you'll be just minutes from this happening part of town!
Some of the top attractions in La Navarreria are:
- Plaza del Castillo: Pamplona's central square and hub of activity
- Ayuntamiento: Pamplona's beautiful Baroque-style City Hall, which sits on the emblematic Plaza Consistorial
- Portal de Francia: One of the best-preserved sections of what remains of Pamplona's defensive walls.
- Teatro Gayarre: Pamplona's main theatre, where you can catch musical, theatrical and dance performances of all kinds.
- Catedral de Santa Maria: The city's incredible cathedral, with parts dating back to 1397!
- Parque de la Tejeria: One of Pamplona's many parks. Enjoy paths winding through fish pools, trees, monuments and fountains.
- Bullring: Spain's second-largest bullring with a capacity for 20,000 spectators. Outside is a monument dedicated to bullfighting aficionado and American writer Ernest Hemingway.
